7 years. Extra Añejo. Fuenteseca Reserva — the entry-level expression in Fuenteseca's vertically structured extra añejo lineup, presenting 7 years of barrel-aged highland Jalisco tequila from Enrique Fonseca's estate in the Los Altos region.

Fuenteseca is among the most rigorously documented and transparently produced tequilas in Mexico. Every expression carries a specific harvest year (cosecha), distillation method, and cask aging regimen — the level of provenance detail more common to fine wine or single malt Scotch than tequila. Enrique Fonseca is considered one of Mexico's most technically accomplished agave farmers and distillers, and Fuenteseca's aging program across 7, 8, 11, 15, 18, and 21-year expressions represents the deepest age-stated tequila vertical available from any single producer.

The Reserva 7 Year is the starting point of the vertical — seven years in a combination of French and American oak barrels producing vanilla, butterscotch, and baking spice character that bridges the agave's natural highland brightness with the complexity that extended oak aging introduces.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What makes Fuenteseca different from other tequila producers? Fuenteseca carries cosecha (harvest year) dating, specific distillation method documentation, and multi-decade age statements on each expression — a level of provenance transparency unprecedented in the tequila category. Each bottle is a fully documented production record, not just a brand label.
  • What is extra añejo tequila? Extra añejo is the highest official age classification for tequila under Mexican law — minimum 3 years in oak barrels under 600 liters. Fuenteseca's 7-year far exceeds this minimum, producing complexity and wood integration closer to aged American whiskey than standard tequila.
  • How does the 7 Year fit in the Fuenteseca vertical? The Fuenteseca Reserva vertical spans 7, 8, 11, 15, 18, and 21 years — the 7 Year is the entry point, presenting the least oak-influenced expression in the series with the most agave character intact.
