Malbec is loved for its bold character, rich color, and robust notes of dark fruit, spice, and cocoa. Originally from Cahors, France, and now the signature grape of Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec offers full-bodied wines that balance power and smoothness.

Malbec originated in Cahors, southwestern France, where it is known as Côt or Auxerrois and produces dense, tannic, inky wines with dark fruit and earthy minerality. In Argentina, Malbec found its most successful second home in Mendoza’s high-altitude vineyards — where the intense UV light, warm days, and cool nights produce a rounder, more opulent style with riper fruit, softer tannins, and more accessible structure than the French original. Argentine Malbec is now the global benchmark for the variety, accounting for the majority of Malbec planted worldwide.
Lujan de Cuyo is the historic heart of Mendoza Malbec — low-altitude (800–1,000m), warmer, producing richer, riper, full-bodied expressions with deep color and plum-forward fruit. The Uco Valley sits higher (1,000–1,500m) and significantly cooler, producing Malbec with more acidity, elegance, and structure — tighter fruit, more minerality, and better aging potential. The altitude difference between these two zones produces wines that taste fundamentally different from the same grape and same regional appellation.
