Appleton Estate 21 Year is a rare aged Jamaican rum — a limited-release blend in which every rum in the marriage has spent at least 21 years aging in the tropical climate of the Nassau Valley, released in small numbers each year as a luxury sipping rum.

Appleton Estate has been producing rum in Jamaica's Nassau Valley since the 18th century, and its aged expressions are defined by tropical maturation — where the heat and humidity accelerate interaction with the oak and intensify character far faster than temperate aging. At 21 years minimum, the result is a deeply developed rum carrying the estate's signature Jamaican character: orange peel, oak, and warm spice over a rich, layered base.

This is a rum built for slow sipping, neat or with a drop of water, rather than mixing. Its limited annual release and extended age make it a collector's and connoisseur's bottle.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Rich orange peel, oak, vanilla, and warm baking spice.
  • Palate: Full and layered — dried fruit, oak, coffee, and the estate's signature Jamaican character.
  • Finish: Long and warming with lingering oak and spice.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the 21 year age statement mean? Every rum in the blend has been aged at least 21 years. Because Appleton ages in Jamaica's tropical climate, that maturation is more intense than the same number of years in a temperate region.
  • How should Appleton 21 be served? As a sipping rum — neat or with a few drops of water to open it up. Its age and complexity are best appreciated on their own rather than in cocktails.
  • Why is Appleton 21 limited? Only a small number of bottles are released each year, reflecting the limited stock of rum that has reached 21 years of tropical aging.
