17 years. 137.6 proof. Single barrel #54. Block Letter label. Brown Wax seal. Willett Family Estate Bottled — the oldest and most historically significant own-distilled expression in the current Wooden Cork Willett collection, and one of the rarest single barrel bourbons from any Kentucky distillery.

Willett Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky has a history stretching back to 1936, but ceased active distillation for decades and operated as a sourcing and bottling operation before returning to production in 2012. The Family Estate Bottled program documented their sourced barrel inventory during this period — but barrel #54 is categorically different: this is Willett own-distilled spirit, carrying the Block Letter label that distinguishes early own-distilled Willett production from the broader Family Estate program.

At 17 years, barrel #54 is the oldest age-statement own-distilled Willett bourbon in the Wooden Cork collection by a significant margin — six full years older than the 11-year expressions, five years older than the 12-year barrels. The Brown Wax seal is the physical marker of this ultra-aged tier of the Family Estate program. At 137.6 proof, it is also among the most concentrated own-distilled Willett expressions available.

The Block Letter designation refers to the specific label style used on early Willett own-distilled releases — a collector marker distinguishing this generation of production from the standard Family Estate label format.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the Block Letter designation? The Block Letter label identifies early own-distilled Willett production — a specific label format that distinguishes this generation of Willett's return to distillation from the broader Family Estate Bottled program. Combined with the Brown Wax seal, it marks the premium tier of own-distilled Willett releases.
  • How does the 17 Year compare to other Willett own-distilled expressions in the collection? At 17 years, barrel #54 is the oldest own-distilled Willett in the collection by a significant margin. The next oldest are the 14-year expressions; the 11-year and 12-year barrels are the most numerous. The 17 Year at 137.6 proof is both the most aged and among the most powerful.
  • Is Willett 17 Year #54 Block Letter Brown Wax still available? Yes — a rare find at this age, proof, and label designation.
