Barrel #772 at 120.8 proof after twelve years — a Willett Family Estate single barrel from the sourced era, bottle 130 of only 132, with its original Willett presentation tube.

Willett did not resume distilling at Bardstown until 2012, so twelve-year bourbon under the Family Estate label comes from the period when Willett bought mature stock from other Kentucky producers, tasted through it, and bottled the exceptional barrels individually at cask strength. The bottle does not name the distillery of origin, and attributing one without documentation would be speculation.

Because each barrel was bottled alone rather than blended toward a house profile, every release from this era carries its own proof, its own character and its own bottle count. Barrel #772 produced 132 bottles. This is number 130 — near the very end of the cask.

The original matching Willett tube is included, which is less common than it sounds on bottles of this age.

Tasting Profile

Dark caramel, vanilla, brown sugar and seasoned oak, with toffee, dried fruit, toasted nuts and baking spice behind them; the proof brings depth and structure, closing long on caramelized sugar, mature oak and lingering spice. Single-barrel whiskey varies cask to cask, so this describes what twelve years at this strength is known for rather than notes taken from this bottle.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Did Willett distil this bourbon? No. Willett's own distillation restarted in 2012, so twelve-year stock under the Family Estate label was sourced from another Kentucky producer and selected by Willett. The distillery isn't identified on the bottle and we won't attribute one without documentation.
  • What does bottle 130 of 132 mean? Barrel #772 yielded 132 bottles in total and this is the 130th filled — among the last out of the cask. It carries no difference in the whiskey, but the near-final numbers tend to be the ones collectors notice on a shelf.
  • How does a sourced Family Estate bottle differ from Willett's own-distilled releases? Different whiskey entirely. The sourced-era bottles are mature stock Willett bought and chose; the own-distilled ones are Willett's own production from 2012 onward, now reaching comparable ages. Collectors generally treat them as two separate categories rather than one continuous series.
