Trader Vic’s is the brand built on the legacy of Victor J. “Trader Vic” Bergeron, the Oakland pub owner who in 1932 opened Hinky Dink’s with a potbelly stove and $700, transformed it into Trader Vic’s by 1936, and invented the Mai Tai there in 1944 — introducing it to the Hawaiian Islands in the 1950s and exporting Polynesian-style drinking culture around the world. The Private Selection line carries that tiki heritage forward.
