The Dalmore Select Edition 2010 Single Malt Scotch Whisky. The Dalmore Distillery, Alness, Highland, Scotland — distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2025, matured in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels before finishing in hand-selected Matusalem and Amoroso sherry casks, bottled at 49.1% ABV (98.2 proof) — delivering intensely rich crushed orange, dark chocolate, sweet vanilla, and warm baking spices on the nose with a full-bodied palate of dark fruitcake, crushed almonds, rich espresso, sweet sherry wine, and toasted wood, and an exceptionally long finish of sweet dried fruit, dark caramel, and elegant oak spice.

The Dalmore Select Edition 2010 presents a 15-year vintage expression from The Dalmore's double maturation program — three years younger than the 2007 vintage but bottled at a meaningfully higher 49.1% ABV, reflecting the specific cask conditions and barrel dynamics that the 2010 spirit experienced over its maturation. The Matusalem and Amoroso sherry casks used for the 2010 edition create a different sherry profile than the Apostoles and Amoroso combination in the 2007 vintage.

Matusalem is a rare and intensely complex Oloroso sherry from González Byass — aged for over 30 years in a centuries-old solera system and one of the richest, most concentrated sherry types available for cask finishing. Its contribution to the 2010 edition is deep, concentrated dried fruit, walnut, and dark chocolate complexity that the 2007's Apostoles produces through a different flavor pathway. Amoroso appears in both editions, adding its characteristic honeyed sweetness and raisin richness as the connecting thread.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Intensely rich with crushed orange, sweet vanilla, and dark chocolate layered with warm baking spices and roasted nuts. The Matusalem cask's concentrated complexity and Amoroso's sweetness create an immediate richness.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and viscous with dark fruitcake, crushed almonds, rich espresso, sweet sherry wine, and toasted wood. The 49.1% ABV delivers more intensity than the 2007's 46.7%, reflecting the 2010's specific cask conditions.
  • Finish: Exceptionally long with sweet dried fruit, dark caramel, and elegant oak spice. The Matusalem's concentrated character sustains the finish with depth.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Matusalem sherry cask and what does it contribute? Matusalem is a rare, extraordinarily complex Oloroso sherry from González Byass aged for over 30 years in a centuries-old solera. One of the most concentrated and complex sherry types used in whisky finishing — contributing deep dried fruit, walnut, dark chocolate, and an oxidative richness that standard Oloroso casks cannot match.
  • How does the 2010 differ from the 2007 Select Edition? The 2010 uses Matusalem casks (vs 2007's Apostoles) alongside Amoroso, is 15 years old (vs 18), and is bottled at 49.1% ABV (vs 46.7%). The 2010's higher proof reflects its specific cask dynamics; the different sherry cask combination produces a distinct flavor pathway to a similarly rich result.
  • Why is the 2010 at a higher ABV than the 2007? Each vintage's bottling strength reflects the specific cask conditions and evaporation dynamics of those particular barrels over their maturation. The 2010's 49.1% vs 2007's 46.7% means the 2010 barrels retained more alcohol concentration over their 15-year aging period.
