Laphroaig 25 Year Old is a cask strength limited release from Islay’s most intensely peated distillery — a single malt bottled at 48.9% ABV representing the perfect marriage of sherried oaky flavours from the European Oloroso Sherry Casks and the creamy, smooth, sweet flavours from the ex-American Bourbon Barrels, made even smoother by 25 years of gentle maturation.

Laphroaig is one of only a few distilleries that still uses traditional malting floors, drying and infusing its own malt with thick blue smoke from old peat-fired kilns. At 25 years in the combined Oloroso and bourbon cask programme, the characteristic intense and medicinal Laphroaig peat smoke character has developed extraordinary depth, integration, and smoothness — the sherry’s sweetness and the bourbon’s vanilla providing counterbalance to the time-honoured Islay peat tang. Why does Laphroaig still use traditional malting floors?

Traditional floor malting — where barley is spread by hand on stone floors and turned regularly as it germinates — allows Laphroaig to control the exact level of peat smoke infused into the malt during kiln drying.
