Henry McKenna 10 Year, Larceny Small Batch & Elijah Craig Small Batch Bundle. Heaven Hill Distillery, Bardstown, Kentucky — three bottles from Heaven Hill's lineup that together span the distillery's most important production traditions: the only extra-aged Bottled-in-Bond single barrel bourbon in the world (Henry McKenna 10 Year), the wheated small batch (Larceny), and the standard high-rye small batch (Elijah Craig) — a comprehensive introduction to what Heaven Hill produces across three distinct approaches.

Henry McKenna 10 Year is the anchor and the rarest of the three: Bottled-in-Bond designation requires 100 proof, single distillery, single distillation season, and at least four years of aging — Henry McKenna satisfies all four requirements and then goes a full decade rather than the minimum four years. Named after Henry McKenna, an Irish immigrant who brought his family's whiskey recipe to Kentucky in the 1850s, it is the only extra-aged Bottled-in-Bond single barrel bourbon commercially available, and the 2019 recipient of Whisky Advocate's Whisky of the Year award at 98 points. Larceny Small Batch uses wheat in place of rye as the secondary grain, producing a softer, rounder character. Elijah Craig Small Batch is Heaven Hill's consistent high-rye upper rick house expression at 94 proof.

The three bottles collectively demonstrate three different production philosophies from the same Kentucky distillery: legal compliance taken to extremes (Henry McKenna's Bottled-in-Bond at 10 years), mash bill variation (Larceny's wheated approach), and standard small batch craft (Elijah Craig's consistent house expression).

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Bottled-in-Bond? A legal designation established by the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 requiring the bourbon to be: the product of one distillation season, from one distillery, aged at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at exactly 100 proof. Henry McKenna goes four years beyond the minimum requirement at 10 years and is bottled as a single barrel rather than a blend.
  • Why did Henry McKenna win Whisky Advocate's Whisky of the Year? The 2019 award recognized Henry McKenna 10 Year Single Barrel Bottled-in-Bond's combination of legal rigor, single barrel character, genuine 10-year age statement, and exceptional value at its price point — a bourbon that over-delivers at every metric that Bottled-in-Bond certification measures.
  • How does Larceny differ from Elijah Craig? Larceny uses wheat in place of rye as the secondary grain, creating a softer, rounder, more dessert-forward character. Elijah Craig uses a traditional high-rye mash bill producing caramel, spice, and classic Kentucky bourbon character. Same Heaven Hill distillery, fundamentally different grain decisions.
