Evil Bean Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur is the award-winning collaboration between Minden Mill Distilling and Alpen Sierra Coffee Roasting Co., bringing estate-distilled spirit together with high-altitude cold brew coffee. At 50 proof (25% ABV), it's built for the modern Espresso Martini era — bold, balanced, and unmistakably real coffee. Winner of "Best Liqueur" and "Best of Class" at the 2024 Craft Distillers Spirits Competition.
Master Distiller Joe O'Sullivan partnered with Alpen Sierra's Master Roaster Christian Waskiewicz to develop Evil Bean from the ground up. The base spirit is distilled at Minden Mill in Minden, Nevada, using wheat and barley grown within a two-mile radius of the distillery. The coffee is a five-origin blend roasted at over 4,700 feet in Carson Valley, where slow, high-altitude roasting fully develops the beans' natural sugars and intensifies flavor complexity.

How to Drink It
-
Espresso Martini: The reason it exists. 1.5 oz Evil Bean, 1 oz vodka, 1 oz fresh espresso, ½ oz simple syrup. Shake hard, double strain, garnish with three coffee beans.
-
Neat or on the rocks: Pour 2 oz over a large cube as an after-dinner pour.
-
White Russian, upgraded: Swap your standard coffee liqueur for Evil Bean — the cold brew base does the heavy lifting.
-
Affogato: A shot over vanilla ice cream. That's it. That's the recipe.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the proof and ABV of Evil Bean Coffee Liqueur?
Evil Bean is bottled at 50 proof, or 25% alcohol by volume — higher than most mainstream coffee liqueurs, which gives cocktails real backbone instead of getting lost behind the vodka.
Who makes Evil Bean?
Evil Bean is produced at Minden Mill Distilling in Minden, Nevada, by Master Distiller Joe O'Sullivan, in collaboration with Master Roaster Christian Waskiewicz of Alpen Sierra Coffee Roasting Co. It's part of the Foley Family Wines & Spirits portfolio.
How is Evil Bean different from Kahlúa or other coffee liqueurs?
Evil Bean uses real cold brew coffee from a five-origin, high-altitude bean blend rather than coffee extract or flavoring. It's also higher proof (50 vs. Kahlúa's 40) and noticeably less sweet, which makes it pull better in Espresso Martinis where you want coffee character to come through.
Does Evil Bean need to be refrigerated?
No. Store it in a cool, dark place like any other liqueur. Some bartenders chill the bottle before making Espresso Martinis to get a colder shake and better foam.
What cocktails work best with Evil Bean?
Espresso Martinis are the headline use, but it also shines in Black Russians, White Russians, Mudslides, and as a coffee modifier in whiskey or rum drinks. The higher proof and authentic coffee flavor give cocktails depth that lower-proof, syrupier liqueurs can't match.
