101 proof. 10 years. 1978. Quart format. Eagle Rare — the oldest and largest-format founding-era Eagle Rare expression in the Wooden Cork collection, a quart bottle from just three years after the brand's 1975 creation at Old Prentice Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
The 1978 vintage was distilled approximately 1968 — before Eagle Rare even existed as a brand — and bottled in 1978 as a 10-year expression under the newly created label. This places the 1978 Quart at the very earliest production era of the brand, with spirit that predates the Eagle Rare name itself. The quart format (approx. 946ml) was standard for premium bourbon in the 1970s and adds a format distinction to the vintage distinction: this is both the oldest Eagle Rare in the collection and the largest bottle.
Together with the 1981 and 1982 750ml releases also in stock, the 1978 Quart completes a three-expression founding-era Eagle Rare set spanning the first seven years of the brand's production history.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Why is the 1978 Quart the most historically significant of the three founding-era Eagle Rare expressions? It is the oldest vintage (distilled circa 1968, before Eagle Rare existed as a brand), the largest format (quart), and the closest bottling to the brand's 1975 founding — three layers of rarity in a single bottle.
