Disaronno is the world's best-known amaretto — an Italian liqueur with a bright amber color and the signature sweet almond character that has anchored the brand since 1525.

Despite its almond-forward aroma, Disaronno is made from apricot kernel oil rather than almonds, infused with a blend of herbs and fruits steeped in alcohol. The result is a smooth, moderately sweet liqueur with the marzipan-like almond note that defines the amaretto category. At 28% ABV it sits comfortably between a sipping liqueur and a cocktail base.

It works neat or over ice as an after-dinner pour, and it's the backbone of the Amaretto Sour and the Godfather (with Scotch). It also turns up in coffee, baking, and dessert applications where a sweet almond note is welcome.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Sweet almond and marzipan with apricot and warm spice.
  • Palate: Moderately full-bodied and sweet — almond, vanilla, and stone fruit.
  • Finish: Smooth and lingering with a nutty, slightly bitter almond close.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Disaronno made from almonds? No. Despite its almond flavor, Disaronno is made from apricot kernel oil infused with herbs and fruits. This is why it is generally considered nut-free, though anyone with a severe allergy should confirm with the producer.
  • What cocktails use Disaronno? The Amaretto Sour and the Godfather (Disaronno and Scotch) are the classics. It also works in coffee drinks, with cola, or splashed into cocktails that benefit from a sweet almond note.
  • How do you serve Disaronno? Neat, over ice, or in cocktails. As an after-dinner liqueur it is commonly served over a single large ice cube.
