Producer Description

In the 1700s the Brandolini D'Adda, who were condottieri, or military leaders, in the service of Venice, acquired the enchanting 13th-century borgo of Vistorta and its properties. The estate villa and its farming buildings, the granary, stalls, and cellars, dating to the 19th century, were constructed by Guido, great-uncle of the family, who with passionate commitment dedicated his life to Vistorta and its agriculture. In the1950s, on the occasion of his marriage, Conte Brando entrusted to his future wife Cristiana and to his friend, stage-designer Renzo Mongiardino, the refurnishing of the once splendid villa. To this day, the family residence still preserves intact the unblemished beauty and timeless fascination of that initiative. The Brandolini have always been open and respected, because of their natural tendency to consider as part of the family, the people who occupy different roles in the company. The history of Vistorta is that of a large family that work, dream, create, and respect their roots.Destiny, or ventura, is a word that appears over and over in the history of the Brandolini family. This is the history of a man and his burning love for the place that witnessed his birth and growth. And it was precisely destiny that brought the young Bandino from Paris, where he studied, but without any great enthusiasms, to his experience in the kibbutz life, west of Haifa. His immersion there in a life in contact with the earth excited him to such a degree that he took up studies in Agronomy at Texas A.& M. University. After concluding his studies, Brandino's return to Venice and to his beloved Vistorta once again aroused strong emotions, as a place that had provided play space during an happy childhood now became his home as an adult. But destiny intervened once again: following a stay at Che2teau Greysac's estate in Bordeaux, he made the decision, along with winemaker George Pauli, to focus totally on the merlot grape. Results were not slow to follow, for after just a few years, prestigious accolades amply confirmed that he had selected the correct path, and Vistorta was soon saluted as one of Italy's truly great wines.
