What is roasted black malt and how does it differ from standard peated malt?

Standard Ardbeg uses heavily peated barley with peat-derived phenols. Roasted black malt is barley roasted to extremely high temperatures for bitter, dark, charcoal, and coffee character similar to dark brewing malt. Ardcore combines both for its uniquely intense profile.
