Grey Goose is a French wheat vodka produced in the Cognac region — distilled from single-origin soft winter wheat grown in the Picardy region of France and blended with spring water from Gensac-la-Pallue in the Cognac region, naturally filtered through Champagne limestone, to produce the ultra-smooth, clean, and slightly sweet character that established it as the benchmark premium vodka in the United States market.

Grey Goose was created by Sidney Frank and Cellar Master François Thibault in 1997, applying the same level of ingredient sourcing attention to vodka that fine wine and cognac production demand — single-origin French wheat, a specific water source with natural limestone filtration, and a production process overseen by a Maître de Chai. The Cognac-region provenance is meaningful: the same limestone geology that filters the region's water for cognac production filters Grey Goose's water source, contributing the mineral smoothness that distinguishes it from vodkas using municipal or less distinctive water. The result is a vodka with a fresh, clean nose, subtle cereal sweetness on the palate, and a long, bright finish without harsh heat.
