The GlenDronach 10 Year Old Portwood Finish is a Highland single malt from GlenDronach Distillery’s historic Forgue warehouses — the distillery’s entry expression with a specific Port pipe finish producing the characteristic intense cherry wood colour, and delightful waves of Victoria plum, bramble, and strawberry jam on the nose, with top notes of cherry blossom and honeysuckle on a base of sandalwood and ginger.

GlenDronach Distillery in Forgue, Aberdeenshire has been producing sherry and port cask-forward Highland single malts since 1826, using the traditional iron mash tun and saxophone copper pot stills alongside Spanish and Portuguese casks. The Portwood Finish takes the standard 10-year Sherry-influenced GlenDronach base and applies Port pipe finishing — the Port pipes’ concentrated red fruit and sweetness adding the rich fruit and deep colour that distinguishes the Portwood expression. Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Port pipe and how does it differ from a Port butt?

A Port pipe is the standard-format Port cask from the Douro Valley of Portugal — approximately 550 litres, similar in size to a sherry butt. The Port pipe carries the concentrated red fruit, sweetness, and warmth of Port wine — both Ruby and Tawny Port pipes are used in Scotch whisky finishing, each adding a different dimension of Port character.
