25 years. Tomintoul — a 25-year Speyside single malt from one of Scotland's highest and most remote distilleries, located at 1,100 feet elevation in the Cairngorms National Park near the village of Tomintoul — the highest village in the Scottish Highlands.

Tomintoul Distillery was founded in 1965 and draws its water from the Ballantruan Spring, a natural source in the Cairngorms renowned for its purity. The distillery's high-altitude, cold-climate location produces slower spirit maturation than lowland Scottish distilleries — the long, cold winters and cool summers extending the effective aging period beyond what the calendar age alone suggests.

At 25 years, the Tomintoul presents the full development of the distillery's naturally light, floral, and honeyed spirit style — the 'gentle dram' philosophy that Tomintoul has maintained since founding — with decades of oak integration adding dried fruit, vanilla, and warm spice without abandoning the delicate character that defines the house style.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why is Tomintoul called the gentle dram? Tomintoul's house style is deliberately light and approachable — the high-altitude Cairngorms water source and distillation process produces a naturally delicate, floral spirit that the distillery has always bottled at accessible ABVs rather than cask strength. The gentle dram name reflects a conscious production philosophy.
  • What does 'Speyside Glenlivet' mean on the label? Historically, many Speyside distilleries appended 'Glenlivet' to their names to associate with the prestige of The Glenlivet's valley. Tomintoul Speyside Glenlivet follows this tradition, indicating the distillery is in the Speyside region near the Livet valley.
