18 years. Exclusively Sherry Seasoned Oak. Aberlour — the apex of Aberlour's standard age-stated range, matured for a minimum of 18 years exclusively in sherry-seasoned oak casks — the most intensively sherried expression in the Aberlour lineup and winner of Double Gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in both 2011 and 2012.

Where the Aberlour 16 Year uses a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, the 18 Year commits fully to sherry-seasoned oak for the entire 18-year maturation — a decision that produces a substantially richer, more sherry-forward profile. The Aberlour 18 is situated at the River Lour and Spey confluence, drawing on the same soft, mineral-rich water source that defines the distillery's house character, with 18 years of sherry oak adding the depth of dried fruit, dark chocolate, and warming spice that this maturation length in these casks produces.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does exclusively sherry-seasoned oak mean for the flavor?

No bourbon cask component — the entire 18 years are spent in sherry-seasoned casks, producing maximum sherry influence: rich dried fruit, dark chocolate, and spice that permeate the spirit without any American oak vanilla or soft fruit to dilute them. The most intensively sherried Aberlour in the standard range.

What is the significance of the Double Gold medals?

San Francisco World Spirits Competition Double Gold requires every judge on the panel to award the spirit a Gold medal — a unanimous judgment of exceptional quality. The 18 Year achieving this in both 2011 and 2012 documents consecutive-year recognition of the expression's quality.
