Brook Hill barrel #7005 at 111.66 proof after fifteen years — a private pick for The Parlor Room in Bardstown, chosen in the same session that produced Willett Family Estate barrel #4242.

Drew and Pablo hosted the private barrel experience at Willett for The Parlor Room, and two barrels came out of it: this fifteen-year Brook Hill and the fifteen-year Willett Family Estate #4242. Picks that travel in pairs are unusual, and collectors who track selections tend to want both halves.

Fifteen years is substantial age for American whiskey, and the proof tells you something about where it sat. At 55.83% ABV the barrel came out moderate rather than hot, which on a long-aged cask generally means a cooler, more humid warehouse position — and whiskey that shows its oak as depth rather than tannin.

The proof is recorded to two decimal places, 111.66, which is how a single barrel gets measured when nobody is rounding toward a house standard.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Deep caramel, vanilla bean, dark fruit, toasted oak and baking spice.
  • Palate: Rich and full-bodied — brown sugar, vanilla, dark cherry, toffee, mature oak and warm spice.
  • Finish: Long and warming, with lingering caramel, vanilla, seasoned oak and baking spice.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the link to Willett Family Estate #4242? Both barrels were selected in the same private picking session for The Parlor Room in Bardstown. They are separate casks holding separate whiskey — what they share is the session, the hosts and the date, which is what makes them a matched pair rather than a matched flavour.
  • Why is the proof given to two decimals? Because it's one barrel and nobody diluted it. A blended product gets cut to a round number; a single cask bottled as it came out lands wherever it lands, and 111.66 is simply what this one measured.
  • Is fifteen years unusual for a private pick? Yes. Most barrel picks are chosen in the four-to-eight-year range, because that's where the available inventory sits. A fifteen-year barrel offered for private selection means mature stock was on the table, which is a large part of why this one is tracked by barrel number.
