Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Rye applies the distillery's signature double-barrel finishing to Kentucky straight rye whiskey, finished in a second heavily toasted, lightly charred new oak barrel at 90.4 proof.
Double Oaked Rye takes the finishing technique made famous by Woodford Reserve's Double Oaked Bourbon and applies it to rye. After its initial maturation, the rye whiskey is finished in a second new oak barrel that is heavily toasted and lightly charred, layering richer dark caramel, roasted nuts, coffee, dried fruit, and chocolate over the grain's naturally spicy, herbal character. It is the extra barrel — not a higher proof — that sets this apart from standard Woodford Rye; both are bottled at 90.4 proof. The heavy toast develops caramelized sweet-oak depth while the light char adds structure without masking the rye. Selected by Woodford Reserve Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall.
