Straight Rye. Bottled-in-Bond. Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. — Buffalo Trace's tribute to the American rye whiskey tradition in the Bottled-in-Bond format that Colonel Taylor himself championed through the 1897 act — a Kentucky straight rye whiskey bottled at exactly 100 proof meeting all federal bonded warehouse requirements.

Rye whiskey is America's original whiskey style — predating bourbon by decades, common in the mid-Atlantic and Appalachian states before corn-based bourbon established its dominance in the 19th century. E.H. Taylor Jr. was a bourbon man at heart, but his advocacy for the Bottled-in-Bond Act was fundamentally about whiskey quality standards regardless of grain type, and the E.H. Taylor Straight Rye honors his legacy by applying those standards to the category he helped elevate.

At 48 units in stock, the E.H. Taylor Straight Rye is the most available expression in the current E.H. Taylor collection at Wooden Cork.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What makes this a Bottled-in-Bond expression? Under the 1897 Act that E.H. Taylor championed: produced by one distillery in one season, aged minimum 4 years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at exactly 100 proof. The E.H. Taylor Straight Rye meets all these requirements, connecting the product directly to the standard its namesake created.
  • How does rye whiskey differ from bourbon? Rye whiskey must contain at least 51% rye grain in the mashbill (vs. 51% corn for bourbon). The rye grain produces more pepper, spice, and grain character compared to bourbon's sweeter corn-forward profile. The E.H. Taylor Straight Rye uses a predominantly rye mashbill for assertive spice and grain character.
