Kōloa is produced in Kauaʻi, Hawaii, using locally grown Hawaiian sugar cane rather than molasses — a key distinction from most commercially produced rum, which is made from molasses (a byproduct of sugar refining) rather than fresh cane or cane juice. The Hawaiian sugar cane and pristine rainwater from Mount Waiʻaleʻe give Kōloa a cleaner, more delicate base than molasses-forward Caribbean rums, closer in style to agricole-style rum.
Produced on Kauaʻi in the Kōloa distillery using Hawaiian sugar cane and water from Mount Waiʻaleʻe — genuinely Hawaii-made rather than sourced and bottled. The vintage copper pot still is a deliberate production choice that retains more character from the base cane compared to continuous column stills, contributing to the fuller texture of the White and Gold expressions.
