The Botanist Islay Cask Rested Gin represents the meeting point of Bruichladdich Distillery's whisky-making heritage and botanical expertise — the standard Botanist Islay Dry Gin's 22 hand-foraged wild botanicals rested for a minimum of six months in Islay whisky casks, acquiring new layers of complexity and character while retaining the essence of the foraged botanical foundation.

The Botanist was created at Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay in 2010, using the distillery's Lomond pot still (christened Ugly Betty) alongside 22 wild botanicals hand-foraged by the distillery's botanical team from the island's coastlines, hillsides, and bogs. The 22 wild botanicals — including gorse flower, heather, bog myrtle, and creeping thistle — are unique to Islay and cannot be replicated elsewhere, giving The Botanist a terroir character unlike any other gin. The Cask Rested edition introduces the whisky dimension that Bruichladdich's primary craft provides: Islay casks previously used for Bruichladdich's unpeated single malt, which carry a subtle Islay maritime character and the previous spirit's residual complexity. Six months of resting allows these cask influences to integrate with the botanical character without overwhelming the foraged gin's essential freshness.
