Malfy Gin Con Arancia. Torino Distillati, Moncalieri, Turin, Italy — distilled with Sicilian blood oranges that hold Protected Geographical Indication status, producing a vibrant citrus gin bursting with orange blossom and sweet blood orange character.

Malfy's Con Arancia is made at Torino Distillati using the same vacuum distillation method as their other expressions: the Sicilian blood orange peels are infused with Italian juniper in Italian grain spirit for 36 hours, then combined with five additional botanicals before distillation in a stainless-steel vacuum still. The use of vacuum distillation — which operates at much lower temperatures than traditional distillation — preserves the volatile aromatic compounds of the blood orange that would otherwise be destroyed by heat, resulting in a gin whose citrus character is vivid, authentic, and distinctly Italian.

The Sicilian blood oranges used in Con Arancia are a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) product — their distinctive flavor develops during the cool Mediterranean nights of Sicily, when temperature fluctuation drives anthocyanin pigment development in the flesh. Blood oranges have a deeper, more complex citrus character than sweet navel oranges, with notes of berry, pomegranate, and a pleasing bitterness that gives Con Arancia its balance. This is a gin that captures the spirit of “La Dolce Vita” — best enjoyed as an aperitivo with Mediterranean tonic and a blood orange wheel on ice.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Sweet and vibrant — orange blossom dominates alongside juicy blood orange, tangerine, and a hint of pink grapefruit. Subtle juniper and coriander provide the gin backbone beneath the citrus.
  • Palate: Bright and citrus-forward. Blood orange leads with a sweet, slightly tart character, followed by crisp herbal notes and juniper. Coriander adds light spice, while the blood orange's natural bitterness balances the sweetness and gives the palate its length.
  • Finish: A final burst of sweet orange zest that is smooth and well-rounded. Warm and lingering with a pleasant fruity sweetness and light spice.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does Malfy Con Arancia taste like? Orange blossom and juicy blood orange dominate the nose. The palate is bright and citrus-forward with sweet blood orange, juniper, and coriander spice, balanced by the blood orange's natural bitterness. The finish is smooth with lingering sweet orange zest.
  • What is a Sicilian blood orange? Blood oranges grown in Sicily have a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status. Their distinctive red flesh and deep citrus flavor develops during cool Mediterranean nights, giving them notes of berry, pomegranate, and complexity not found in ordinary sweet oranges.
  • How is Malfy Con Arancia different from Malfy Rosa? Rosa uses Sicilian pink grapefruit and rhubarb for a tart, bright character. Con Arancia uses Sicilian blood oranges for a sweeter, more rounded citrus profile with orange blossom notes and a naturally warmer color.
  • What cocktails is Malfy Con Arancia best in? Outstanding in a G&T with Mediterranean tonic and a blood orange wheel. Also excellent in a Negroni where the blood orange complements Campari, or a La Dolce Vita Spritz (gin, aromatic tonic, Italian bitter aperitif, orange wheel).
  • What is vacuum distillation? A distillation method using reduced pressure that lowers the boiling point, allowing the spirit to distill at lower temperatures. This preserves delicate citrus aromatics that traditional distillation would cook off.
