Chivas Regal is one of the world's great blended Scotch whisky houses, produced by Chivas Brothers in Strathisla, Speyside — the oldest continuously operating distillery in the Scottish Highlands, founded in 1786. Every expression in the Chivas lineup is built on a core of Strathisla malt alongside a selection of other Speyside, Highland, and grain whiskies chosen for richness, smoothness, and depth.
Chivas Regal defined the luxury blended Scotch category in the United States after Prohibition and remains one of the most recognized Scotch brands in the world. The house style is unmistakable: rich, smooth, and generous — honey, vanilla, hazelnut, and dried fruit with a warm, lingering finish. Age statements in the Chivas lineup indicate the minimum age of the youngest whisky in the blend.
Chivas Regal 12 Year Old — The entry expression and global bestseller. A blend of malt and grain whiskies aged a minimum of 12 years, delivering honey, vanilla, hazelnut, and ripe apple with a creamy, accessible finish. The foundation of the house style. Chivas Regal 18 Year Old — A more refined and complex expression. Minimum 18 years aging produces dark chocolate, dried fruit, buttery toffee, and a lingering warmth that elevates the 12 Year character significantly. Chivas Regal 25 Year Old — The prestige tier of the core lineup. A minimum 25-year blend producing exceptional richness — orange, peach, marzipan, and dried fruit with the complexity and integration that only time in barrel produces.
Chivas Regal Extra 13 Year Old Sherry Cask — The standard 13-year blend finished in Oloroso sherry casks, adding sweet fruit, spice, and depth not present in the core 12 Year. Chivas Regal XV (15 Year Old) — A 15-year blend finished in Grande Champagne Cognac casks from the Cognac region of France, adding a rich, fruity, and distinctively French character to the Speyside base. Chivas Regal Ultis — A blend of five single malts from the five master blenders of Chivas Brothers, each contributing their personal choice of single malt cask to the vatting. Chivas Regal Mizunara — Finished in Japanese Mizunara oak casks, adding incense, sandalwood, and exotic spice character unique to the Japanese oak influence. Chivas Regal 1801 Ultimate Cask Collection — Limited ultra-premium expressions at the top of the Chivas range.

A blend of single malt Scotch whiskies and grain whiskies from distilleries across Speyside and the Scottish Highlands. Strathisla — the oldest continuously operating distillery in the Highlands, founded in 1786 — is the heart malt of every Chivas blend. The grain whiskies contribute smoothness and texture; the malts contribute the fruit, honey, and complexity.
All three use the same house style and Strathisla heart malt — the difference is aging. The 12 Year is honey and vanilla with a smooth, accessible character. The 18 Year adds 6 more years of aging, producing dark chocolate, dried fruit, and greater depth. The 25 Year is the most complex and rare of the three — orange, marzipan, and extraordinary integration from a quarter century in barrel.
The Extra range finishes the standard Chivas blend in specific secondary casks — Oloroso sherry, American rye, American bourbon, and other cask types. The finishing adds flavor complexity that goes beyond what the standard blend produces, at a price point between the 12 and 18 Year expressions.
Yes — the 12 Year is one of the most versatile blended Scotch whiskies for cocktails. Its smooth, honey-forward profile works in a Rob Roy, Scotch Sour, or Rusty Nail without the peaty character that can dominate cocktails made with Islay malts. The XV and Extra expressions are better suited to sipping neat or on the rocks.
