Rhum Barbancourt is a superior premium dark rum distilled twice in copper pot stills. It is then barrel-aged in white oak barrels. Unlike other island rums, Barbancourt is made directly from sugar cane juice, pressed from hand-cut, locally grown cane. Aged 8 years. A full bodied premium Reserve Speciale dark rum with a velvety quality. Will enhance any rum drink.

A good Aged Rum for Cocktails

I've been trying a variety of aged rums to drink straight, but mostly used in cocktails. From seeing Barbancourt 4yr & 8yr recommended often from a few of the cocktail sites I use, I chose this 8yr because reviews said it has a more complex flavor than the 4yr. I've found that it works well in the Tailor of Panama cocktail, and a Près Du Quai which is a riff on the Vieux Carré, with Bourbon instead of Rye whiskey & Aged rum instead of Cognac. I was also interested in what Haitian rum tasted like compared to other countries' rum. It's a little on the dry oak side of the rum spectrum for me, which is good for balance in a drink when using sweeteners & liqueurs. I would recommend it depending on the price.
