Quarter unveils low-ABV ‘Tequila’

Jun 13, 2023by Georgie Collins

Light spirits brand Quarter has revealed the ‘world’s first light Tequila’, which is bottled at 12% ABV.

The agave-based ‘spirit’, called Quarter T/quila, is said to deliver ‘all the flavour and experience you would expect from a full-strength Tequila, without the consequences’. Fabian Clark, co-founder of Quarter, commented: “Globally, Tequila is on the rise and it's here to stay. "All of our stockists have been begging us for an agave spirit, so we thought we should deliver. With our T/quila, we couldn’t be prouder of what the team has created and we’re excited to be sipping on Quarter Margaritas this summer.” Quarter set out to create a light ‘Tequila’ that strikes the perfect balance between flavour and functionality for the customer. The company, which launched a quarter-strength ‘gin’ in 2021, developed the liquid alongside master distiller Anthony Wilson over nine months. The product is made using Mexican Blue agave imported from Mexico, which is then fermented in the UK along with the brand’s carefully crafted unique strain of yeast. The wash is then copper pot-distilled to 55% ABV before being blended with the brand’s selected botanicals, including black sarawak pepper and orange habanero, and diluted to create an earthy, spicy low-strength ‘Tequila’ that rests at 12% ABV. As a brand, Quarter believes that ‘owning that tipsy feeling’ is one of the most enjoyable parts of drinking alcohol verses being over-refreshed and inevitably hungover. Quarter T/quila is said to be more ‘sessionable’ and opens up more drinking occasions. Due to initial demand, a limited run will be available on Amazon and www.quarterproof.com. It will be available in 700ml bottles for RRP £25 (US$30). Quarter Light G/N is currently sold through Amazon, The Whisky Exchange, Planet Organic, Wholefoods, Daylesford and a large number of independent retailers.
