Port Askaig unveils 12-year-old whisky
Independent bottler and blender Elixir Distillers has added a 12-year-old single malt to its Port Askaig Scotch whisky range.
The new release comprises distillate from 2006 and 2007 that has been matured for more than 12 years to create an Islay whisky that is said to balance sweetness and smoke. Port Askaig 12 Years Old Spring Edition is said to have aromas of peated malt, zesty lemon oil and a maritime minerality, leading to flavours of lemon sherbet, key lime pie, sooty smoke and toffee-led sweetness. The finish is said to deliver barbecued Persian black lemon and dried mint leaves, with a touch of paprika. Bottled at 45.8% ABV without caramel colouring or chill filtration, Port Askaig 12 Years Old Spring Edition is priced at £65.95 (US$88) per 700ml bottle. It is available to purchase from The Whisky Exchange.
