WhistlePig Farm in Shoreham, Vermont is the most celebrated rye whiskey producer in the United States — a farm distillery built on the belief that rye deserves the same reverence that single malt Scotch commands. Founded in 2007 by entrepreneur Raj Bhakta and master distiller Dave Pickerell (the legendary Maker's Mark master distiller who became the most prolific whiskey consultant in American history), WhistlePig established its reputation on exceptional sourced Canadian rye before building out its own distillery and farm program. Today WhistlePig both sources and distills, using estate-grown rye from the 500-acre farm for its FarmStock program. Wooden Cork ships the full WhistlePig lineup nationwide including Boss Hog limited releases.
WhistlePig 10 Year Straight Rye — The flagship and the expression that built the brand. 100% rye, aged 10 years in American oak, bottled at 100 proof. Bold peppery spice, dried fruit, vanilla, and a long, complex finish. One of the most awarded American ryes ever produced.
WhistlePig 12 Year Old World Cask Finish — The 10 Year finished in European casks — Madeira, Sauternes, and port. The Old World finishing program adds sweetness, dried fruit, and wine-like complexity to the standard rye character.
WhistlePig 15 Year Straight Rye — 15 years in Vermont white oak barrels from the farm. More oak integration, deeper complexity, and the richest expression in the standard lineup. A benchmark for aged American rye.
WhistlePig FarmStock — Uses estate-grown rye from the Vermont farm blended with aged sourced rye. A progressive series (Crop 001, 002, 003) tracking the farm program's development as estate whisky matures.
WhistlePig PiggyBack — 6-year rye at 96.56 proof, designed as a value-tier entry into the brand. Lighter and more cocktail-friendly than the 10 Year while maintaining the house rye character.
WhistlePig Boss Hog — Annual ultra-limited releases at cask strength, featuring extraordinary age statements and unique cask finishes. Boss Hog is among the most collectible and highest-rated American whiskey releases each year. Past editions include The Spirit of Mauve, The Samurai Scientist (Mizunara finish), and The Beast of Burden. Wooden Cork acquires Boss Hog when available.
WhistlePig both distills and sources. The core 10, 12, and 15 Year expressions primarily use sourced Canadian rye whiskey, while the FarmStock series uses estate-grown rye from their Vermont farm blended with aged sourced stock. The Boss Hog series draws from various sources depending on the edition. Dave Pickerell and successor Meghan Ireland have been transparent about the sourcing throughout the brand's history.
The 15 Year uses Vermont white oak — younger, more reactive barrels from WhistlePig's own farm — producing a more aggressive oak character than standard American white oak. At 15 years, the oak integration is remarkable: vanilla, toasted coconut, caramelized wood sugar, and deep spice. It's one of the few American ryes that can be discussed in the same breath as premium aged Scotch in terms of complexity.
Boss Hog is WhistlePig's annual ultra-limited cask strength release — typically one edition per year, often with Mizunara or other unusual cask finishes, and age statements 10+ years. These sell through within hours of release. Wooden Cork acquires Boss Hog allocations each year — join our allocation list or check current stock above.
