In spring 2020, WhistlePig gave fans three component whiskeys — a 4-year-old rye, a 5-year-old wheat whiskey, and a 5-year-old barley whiskey — and asked them to blend their own ratios at home, share their results, and vote for the final recipe. The winning blend — 45% rye, 30% wheat, 25% barley — became Crop 004. The "HomeStock" name directly references the pandemic context: blended together, while apart.

The resulting grain composition is the most diverse in the FarmStock series: where Crop 001, 002, and 003 were primarily rye-forward, Crop 004 introduces significant wheat and barley components alongside the rye.
