1.75 liters of LOUIS XIII. Up to 1,200 eaux-de-vie. 100 years in the making. The most extraordinary Cognac in the world, in the Magnum format.

LOUIS XIII is not produced the way other Cognacs are produced. Each decanter contains a blend of up to 1,200 individual eaux-de-vie — grape-based spirits sourced exclusively from the Grande Champagne, the premier cru of the Cognac region — some of which have been aging in Tierçon oak casks for up to 100 years. The cellar master who assembles a batch of LOUIS XIII today is blending spirit that was distilled by a cellar master who has been dead for decades. It is, by design, a multi-generational work.

The Magnum presents 1.75 liters of this Cognac in a hand-crafted crystal decanter that is itself a collector's object. The crystal is produced by Saint-Louis, one of France's oldest crystal manufacturers, and each decanter features the fleur-de-lis stopper and the elegant proportions that have defined LOUIS XIII's presentation since the brand was established by Rémy Martin in 1874.

At $12,499 for 1.75 liters, this is not a purchase — it is an acquisition. It belongs in significant collections, significant occasions, and rooms where it will be appreciated for what it represents: the longest, most patient process in the spirits world, delivered at the scale that only the Magnum makes possible.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Deep, burnished mahogany with extraordinary luminosity.
  • Aroma: Infinite complexity — crystallized fruit, dried flowers, leather, honey, incense, and a wood spice that has been developing for a century. Nothing else smells like this.
  • Palate: A symphony of flavor that evolves continuously across the palate — fruit, spice, floral notes, and a silky texture that reflects decades of oak contact and expert blending.
  • Finish: Exceptionally long — minutes, not seconds. The finish of LOUIS XIII is one of the most discussed experiences in fine spirits.

The Tierçon Casks

LOUIS XIII ages exclusively in Tierçon oak casks — a specific size and type of barrel used only in the Grande Champagne region of Cognac. Rémy Martin maintains a library of these casks, some dating back centuries, and the interaction between the spirit and this specific wood over decades of maturation is central to LOUIS XIII's character. The casks are never replaced — they are maintained, repaired, and passed down through generations of cellar masters.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between the LOUIS XIII 750ml and the Magnum 1.75L? The Cognac is identical — the same blend of up to 1,200 eaux-de-vie aged up to 100 years. The Magnum presents 1.75 liters in a larger hand-crafted Saint-Louis crystal decanter. It is the format for significant collections, grand occasions, and gifts where scale is part of the statement.
  • Why does LOUIS XIII cost so much? Because the oldest components in any given batch have been aging for up to 100 years — meaning the process of creating a single batch spans multiple human lifetimes. The crystal decanter, the Grande Champagne sourcing, and the four-generation production process are reflected in the price. There is no shortcut to what LOUIS XIII is.
  • What is Grande Champagne? Grande Champagne is the premier cru of the Cognac appellation in southwest France — the highest-rated sub-region, known for producing eaux-de-vie with exceptional aging potential and finesse. LOUIS XIII uses only Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie, which is one of the strictest sourcing standards in Cognac production.
  • How should LOUIS XIII be served? In a crystal tulip glass, at room temperature, with no ice. Pour a small amount and allow it to breathe for several minutes before the first sip. LOUIS XIII rewards patience — the nose evolves for 30 minutes or more in the glass, revealing new layers with time.
