Scotland produces the world's most diverse range of whisky styles across five legally defined regions — each with its own character, tradition, and landmark distilleries. Wooden Cork carries single malts, blended Scotch, and peated expressions from every region, shipped nationwide with adult-signature delivery.
Speyside — home to more distilleries than any other Scottish region — produces the most fruit-forward, approachable single malts. The Macallan is the global benchmark for sherry cask Scotch, with expressions from 12 to 30+ years. Glenfiddich is the world's best-selling single malt. The Balvenie produces some of the most elegant honey-and-vanilla expressions in the category. Glenlivet and Aberlour round out Speyside's dominant lineup.
Islay produces the most heavily peated whiskies in the world — smoke-forward, coastal, and polarizing in the best way. Laphroaig, Ardbeg, and Lagavulin are the three iconic Islay distilleries, each with a distinct take on peat smoke. Bowmore and Bruichladdich offer more restrained Islay character. For peat lovers, there is no substitute.
The Highlands is Scotland's largest region, producing diverse styles from the fruity, honeyed Glenmorangie to the rich, sherried Dalmore. Highland Park from Orkney is one of the most complete whiskies in Scotland — balanced peat, heather, and sherry. Oban sits on the western coast, producing coastal Highland malt with a subtle smoke.
Blended Scotch — combining malt and grain whiskies from multiple distilleries — accounts for over 90% of all Scotch sales. Johnnie Walker (Black, Blue, Gold, and King George V), Chivas Regal 12, 18, and 25, Dewar's, Famous Grouse, and Monkey Shoulder are the leading expressions. Blended Scotch is often underappreciated by enthusiasts but at its best represents extraordinary craftsmanship.
Single malt Scotch is made at a single distillery from 100% malted barley, aged minimum 3 years in oak. Blended Scotch combines malt whisky from multiple distilleries with grain whisky. Single malts showcase individual distillery character; blends prioritize consistency and approachability.
Peated Scotch uses malted barley dried over burning peat — compressed ancient organic matter — which imparts smoky, medicinal, and earthy flavors. Islay distilleries like Laphroaig, Ardbeg, and Lagavulin are the most heavily peated. Peat level is measured in PPM (phenol parts per million); Laphroaig runs around 40–45 PPM, Ardbeg around 55 PPM.
Speyside is fruit-forward and elegant. Islay is peaty and coastal. The Highlands produce diverse styles — rich, fruity, or lightly smoky depending on the distillery. Lowlands are light and floral. Campbeltown has its own briny, complex character. The region a whisky comes from is a useful starting point but individual distillery character matters more.
