Moët & Chandon was founded in 1743 in Épernay, France, and is the world’s most celebrated Champagne house. Core expressions include Brut Impérial (signature blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay), Rosé Impérial, Ice Impérial (designed to be served over ice), and the prestige Dom Pérignon vintage cuvée.

Dom Pérignon is Moët & Chandon’s prestige cuvée — produced at the same Champagne house but as a distinct, separately managed label with its own winemaking team, its own vineyards, and its own release philosophy. Dom Pérignon is always vintage (produced only in exceptional years, not released as a non-vintage blend) and is aged significantly longer before release than the standard Moët expressions. The Dom Pérignon label is named after the 17th-century Benedictine monk who is historically associated with Champagne’s development, though modern Champagne production was developed by many contributors. Moët & Chandon purchased the Abbey of Hautvillers, where Dom Pérignon worked, in 1821.
Brut Impérial is a non-vintage Champagne — meaning it is blended from wines of multiple years rather than from a single harvest. Moët & Chandon maintains a library of reserve wines from previous years that are blended each year with the primary harvest to produce a consistent house style regardless of vintage variation. Approximately 20–30% of each Brut Impérial blend typically comes from reserve wines. This is the standard approach for most Champagne non-vintage expressions and is why the flavor profile of Brut Impérial is recognizable from bottle to bottle over many years.
