Maestro Dobel is one of the most innovative tequila brands in the premium category — founded by Juan Domingo Beckmann, 11th-generation heir to the Jose Cuervo dynasty, the brand created the cristalino tequila category in 2008 with the release of Diamante. What Beckmann pioneered — charcoal-filtering aged tequila to achieve crystal clarity while retaining barrel-developed complexity — sparked an entirely new segment of premium tequila that now includes Don Julio 70, Patrón Cristalino, and dozens of others.
Maestro Dobel Diamante — The original cristalino. A unique blend of Reposado, Añejo, and Extra Añejo tequilas, charcoal-filtered to crystal clarity. The three-age-statement blend adds complexity before filtration — vanilla, caramel, toasted oak, and bright agave in a crystal-clear spirit. The expression that created the cristalino category. Maestro Dobel Humito — A smoked cristalino unlike anything else in the tequila category. 100% Blue Weber agave smoked over mesquite wood before fermentation and distillation, then filtered to crystal clarity — smoky agave, earthy mesquite, citrus, and mineral in a clear liquid. A bridge between mezcal and premium tequila for drinkers who want smoke without sacrificing clarity. Maestro Dobel 50 Extra Añejo — The prestige expression, aged over three years in a combination of American, French, and Hungarian oak barrels. Three different oak species each contribute distinct character — American oak for vanilla and caramel, French oak for spice and dried fruit, Hungarian oak for additional tannin and complexity. A whiskey-adjacent sipping experience at the highest tier of aged tequila. Maestro Dobel Pavito — A limited wine cask-finished expression, presenting the Maestro Dobel base spirit with the additional complexity of wine barrel finishing.
Yes — Maestro Dobel Diamante, released in 2008, is the original cristalino expression and the one that created the category. Before Diamante, charcoal-filtering aged tequila for crystal clarity did not exist as a commercial category. Don Julio 70, Patrón Cristalino, and every other cristalino followed Beckmann's innovation.
Humito is still tequila — produced from Blue Weber agave in the designated tequila region of Jalisco under tequila regulations. The mesquite smoke is applied to the agave before fermentation, giving the finished spirit a smoky character similar to mezcal without meeting the legal definition of mezcal. It occupies a unique category-bridging position: tequila's smoke without mezcal's more rustic, earthy character.
American oak (vanilla, caramel, and coconut), French oak (spice, dried fruit, and subtle floral notes), and Hungarian oak (firm tannin, additional spice, and structure). The three-oak approach is unusual in tequila and more common in premium whiskey production — the combination produces a complexity and layered character that single-oak aged tequila cannot achieve.
