Longrow is the heavily peated single malt produced at Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown, Scotland — distilled 2.5 times using floor-malted barley at around 50 PPM, producing a robust, oily, maritime smoke style distinct from Islay peat. Core expressions include Peated (NAS, 46%), 18 Year, and 21 Year. The annual Red Series finishes in wine casks — Tawny Port, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and others — each releasing limited quantities.

Both Longrow and Islay malts (Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin) are heavily peated at similar PPM levels, but the character of the smoke is meaningfully different. Islay peat is formed from coastal vegetation including seaweed and maritime grasses, producing iodine, brine, and medicinal phenolics. Campbeltown peat (used for Longrow at Springbank) comes from different organic matter and produces a softer, earthier smoke with less of the iodine-forward antiseptic note. Longrow’s smoke is big and bold but rounder — more bonfire and damp wood than surgical spirit and seaweed.
An annual limited release program where Longrow is finished in a different wine cask type each year — past editions have included Tawny Port, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Pinot Noir, and Sherry. Each release is fully bottled in a single limited quantity from barrels that spent time in those specific wine casks after primary aging. The wine cask finishing adds fruit, tannin, and color while the Campbeltown peat and maritime character remain the backbone. Red Series releases sell out quickly when available.
