What is the difference between the Maduro and Sumatra wrappers?

The San Andres Maduro wrapper is a Mexican tobacco leaf that has been fermented longer than standard wrappers, producing a dark, almost black color and a distinctly sweet, full-bodied character with notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and earthiness. The Sumatra wrapper is a lighter Indonesian leaf with a reddish-brown color producing a smoother, more balanced smoke with mild-medium body and subtle spice. The same filler and binder under different wrappers produce noticeably different smoking experiences.

What do the Churchill and Gordo Grande names refer to?

These are vitola (cigar size) designations, not flavor profiles. Churchill is a large format cigar — approximately 7 inches long with a 47 ring gauge — named after Winston Churchill who famously smoked large cigars. Gordo Grande refers to a thick-gauge format with a wider ring gauge (50+), which burns slower and cooler than thinner cigars, allowing more complex flavor development over a longer smoke.
