Hess Collection is a Napa Valley winery founded in 1978 on the slopes of Mount Veeder, producing estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and red blends with a commitment to sustainable viticulture. The Mount Veeder Cabernet and Lion Tamer Cabernet are the flagship expressions; the Allomi tier offers accessible Napa Valley Chardonnay and Cabernet.
The Mount Veeder site — a rocky, volcanic sub-appellation on the western slopes above the Napa Valley floor — produces Cabernet Sauvignon with a distinctly structured, mineral, and age-worthy character compared to the richer, more fruit-forward Cabernets from the valley floor and benchland. Hess has farmed Mount Veeder estate vineyards since 1978 and maintains biodynamic certification on select parcels. Browse all wine at Wooden Cork.
Mount Veeder sits on the volcanic western slopes above the Napa Valley floor at 1,400–2,000 feet elevation. The rocky, well-drained volcanic soils produce naturally lower-yielding vines that concentrate flavor, while the cooler mountain temperatures preserve acidity and structure. The result is Cabernet Sauvignon with more mineral character, firmer tannins, and greater aging potential than most valley-floor Napa Cabernet.
Hess Collection’s approachable premium Cabernet Sauvignon — a Napa Valley blend anchored by Mount Veeder fruit alongside Malbec and Petit Verdot for rounding and richness. More accessible in style than the estate Mount Veeder Cabernet, with plush red fruit, vanilla, and cassis, while still reflecting the Hess estate character.
