Dom Pérignon is Moët & Chandon’s prestige cuvée — produced exclusively in exceptional vintages, never released in off years, and aged on lees for a minimum of eight years before disgorgement. The result is one of the most recognized and consistently celebrated Champagnes in the world: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blended to reflect a single year’s exceptional harvest with extraordinary depth and age-worthiness.
The legend of Dom Pérignon traces to the Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Pérignon at the Abbey of Hautvillers in the late 17th century, credited with advancing the art of blending and Champagne production. The prestige cuvée bearing his name was first released in 1936 (from the 1921 vintage) by Moët & Chandon. Each vintage is declared only when the chief winemaker determines the harvest quality meets the standard — roughly two-thirds of years since the 1980s.
Dom Pérignon Vintage Brut — The flagship expression. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, minimum 8 years on lees. Brioche, white stone fruit, citrus, and mineral depth. Released approximately 9–10 years after the harvest. Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage — A small-production rosé expression from the same vintage harvest, with added depth and fruit complexity from extended skin contact. Among the most collectible rosé Champagnes produced. Dom Pérignon P2 (Plénitude 2) — The same vintage wine as the standard Brut, aged an additional 4–6 years on lees for a second disgorgement. Richer texture, deeper complexity, and dramatically greater age-worthiness than the P1 release. Dom Pérignon P3 (Plénitude 3) — A third disgorgement after 20+ years on lees — extremely rare and one of the most complex expressions of vintage Champagne produced. Limited Editions — Annual collaborations with artists and designers including Lady Gaga, Lenny Kravitz, and others producing collectible bottle designs with the same vintage wine.

Plénitude refers to additional aging periods on lees after the initial release. P1 is the standard release (minimum 8 years). P2 is the same vintage wine disgorged again after approximately 12–16 years on lees — producing a richer, more complex, and more age-worthy expression. P3 exceeds 20 years on lees and is among the rarest and most complex Champagnes produced. The wine is identical at disgorgement; the difference is entirely the additional time spent aging on the lees.
Dom Pérignon is a vintage Champagne — it is only produced in years where the chef de cave judges the harvest quality sufficient to produce wine worthy of the brand. Non-vintage years simply don’t result in a Dom Pérignon release. This makes each vintage a genuine declaration rather than an annual product, and explains why consecutive release years are sometimes separated by multiple calendar years.
