Cazadores Tequila – Highland Agave, Zero-Waste Production

Cazadores is one of the most respected mid-premium tequila brands in the market. Founded in 1922 in Arandas, Jalisco, in the Los Altos Highlands, Cazadores uses 100% Blue Weber agave grown at altitude where cooler temperatures and iron-rich red clay soil produce agave with higher sugar content and more pronounced flavor than lowland agave. The distillery operates a certified zero-waste production process — agave fibers become compost, wastewater is treated and reused.

Why Highland Agave Matters

Los Altos sits at 6,500–8,000 feet elevation. At altitude, agave grows more slowly (7–10 years versus 5–7 in the lowlands), develops more complex sugars, and produces a distinctly sweeter, fruitier, more floral profile than the earthy, herbal character of lowland tequilas. Cazadores’ Arandas location is one of the premier Highlands growing zones.

The Cazadores Lineup

Blanco — Unaged, pure Highland agave character: fresh citrus, white pepper, floral notes. The benchmark for a Highlands Blanco and the best choice for Margaritas and Palomas. Reposado — Aged over two months in new American white oak. Vanilla, light caramel, dill, black pepper, honey — without overwhelming the agave. Añejo — Aged at least 12 months: cinnamon, vanilla, dried pear, toasted oak. Excellent neat or on the rocks. Extra Añejo — Aged over three years: caramel, roasted nuts, toffee, dark dried fruit. Cristalino Añejo — Aged Añejo charcoal-filtered for clarity while preserving complexity. Café — Tequila infused with coffee for after-dinner sipping or as an Espresso Martini base.
