Yellowstone makes its first American single malt
Luxco has released its first American single malt whiskey under the Yellowstone brand.
Yellowstone American Single Malt Whiskey was matured for four years in new charred oak barrels. The whiskey has been bottled at 54% ABV, and is a full-bodied whiskey, with notes of caramel, dates and gentle spice akin to Bourbon. Yellowstone's single malt initially launched in the US in the last 30 days, and will be available in Europe from June. European markets will include the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy. It will retail for around RRP £59 (US$72) per 700ml bottle. Greg Mefford, international sales director, Luxco, said: “American single malt is a really exciting category. We think this is a really great single malt whiskey and we can’t wait to share it with fans of our Yellowstone Bourbon. “It’s full-bodied whiskey that we think consumers are going to love.” The Yellowstone whiskey brand has been growing quickly over the last five years, Mefford explained during the first day of ProWein 2023. Five years ago, the brand was selling around 30,000 cases annually – but is expecting to sell 250,000 in 2023. Luxco was acquired by MGP Ingredients for US$475 million in April 2021. Founded in 1958, Luxco produces American whiskey brands such as Ezra Brooks, Rebel Yell, Davies County and Yellowstone, as well as El Mayor Tequila, Everclear grain spirit, and a range of liqueurs. Last year, Luxco and The Spirits Business raised £4,500 (US$5,550) to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine following the auction of a Rebel Bourbon barrel.
