White Peak debuts its first refill whisky
English spirits producer White Peak Distillery has released Caduro, its first whisky to be offered as a refill.
The launch comes just over a year after the debut of its Wire Works single malt whisky. Caduro is a vatting of Derbyshire single malt, matured in a combination of American and French oak, and White Peak’s signature STR casks (re-conditioned wine barriques that have been shaved, toasted and re-charred). Max Vaughan, co-founder of Derbyshire-based White Peak, said: “Off the back of an amazing 2022 for Wire Works Whisky and having sold out of last month’s Double Oak Port release, we are excited to now be sharing our first main release of 2023. "Over the past year we have been overwhelmed by the response we’ve had from our various communities, sector partners and friends who have supported us, bought our whiskies and visited us here at the distillery." The selected casks are said to add extra fruit depth and intensity to the lightly-peated spirit, which clocks in at 46.8% ABV. The non-chill-filtered expression presents green apple, banana and candy cane on the nose, with citrus zest, cereal and tobacco on the palate, and a warm, spicy finish with a wisp of smoke. A 15% discount will be applied for customers who bring their empty Caduro bottle back to the distillery shop. In addition, the release is set to be White Peak’s first exploration into a ‘potential benchmark core range’ under the Wire Works Whisky label. Vaughan added: "The launch of Caduro marks a milestone for us a year on from our first release, both as a development towards a benchmark core whisky, and with a name that is grounded in the passion and connection we feel for our home and rich heritage here at the Wire Works." Caduro will be available from tomorrow (24 March) via the distillery shop and online, as well as from trade partners including Booths, Master of Malt, The Whisky Exchange, and select independents in the UK for £60 (US$73.88) per 700ml bottle.
