Eminente release ages like fine wine

Eminente Moët Hennessy-owned Eminente unveiled its second 10-year-old Cuban rum with the launch of Gran Reserva Edition N°2. The second edition of Gran Reserva features a four-month finish in Sauternes wine casks, following the French oak barrel finish that was explored with Edition N°1. The rum was created by Eminente master distiller César Martí, who aged a combination of aguardientes in a dry cellar, initially in white oak barrels that previously held whisky. The liquid was then transferred to Sauternes wine casks for a final six months to give the rum a “distinctive aromatic profile” with notes of subtle hints of caramel and vanilla from the Sauternes cask complementing honey, apricots and tropical fruits. Martí described the expression as “an exotic trip to the aromas of the countryside in Cuba”. It sits at 43.2% ABV and retails for £79 (US$104).
