The Whisky Exchange reveals winter collection

Spirits retailer The Whisky Exchange has unveiled its third Seasons collection, which captures winter flavours in three single malt bottlings.

The Seasons: Winter release includes three single cask, single malt Scotch whiskies: Orkney 2013 10-year-old, Laphroaig 2015 eight-year-old, and Blair Athol 2007 16-year-old. The trio represents the third chapter of the retailer's 12-bottle, own-label collection, which is dedicated to showcasing seasonal flavours. The release follows the launch of the Summer and Autumn sets in mid and late 2024. Each whisky features illustrative labels created by The Whisky Exchange’s team, designed to reflect its unique flavour notes. This time, the labels feature an icy blue motif inspired by frosty mornings. All whiskies in the collection are drawn from a single cask and bottled at cask strength without chill filtration. Dawn Davies MW, buying director of The Whisky Exchange, commented: “These whiskies are proper winter warmers with their rich Sherry-heavy backbone, dark spices and full flavours. Warm up your dark and dull January with these wonderful, heart-warming drams.” The youngest of the Winter releases, eight-year-old Laphroaig, is offered at 66% ABV and retails for £79.95 (US$99). The expression offers aromas of dark fruits, moss, roasted almonds, and raisins, followed on the palate by toffee, coffee, roasted marshmallows, nutmeg, and bonfire ash. The 10-year-old single malt from the island of Orkney was distilled in 2013. At 57% ABV, the whisky displays aromas of roasted chestnuts, caramelised orange peel, a hint of spice, carrot cake, and marzipan, with dark chocolate and cacao nibs on the palate. The expression retails for £69.95 (US$87). The last and oldest single malt, 16-year-old Blair Athol, offers walnuts, leather, a hint of fireworks, raisin and sultana on the nose, followed by rich and bold dried fruits, nuts and sweet spices on the palate. The whisky retails for £110 (US$136) and is bottled at 55.1% ABV. The complete set of The Seasons whiskies will be released later in 2025, and three more single malt Scotch whiskies will be released as part of the Spring collection. Last month, The Whisky Exchange announced its Whisky of the Year 2025: New Riff Kentucky Straight Bourbon Bottled in Bond.
