The Macallan expands Distil Your World series
Edrington Group-owned The Macallan has unveiled a limited edition single malt inspired by Hong Kong as part of its Distil Your World range.
The series continues the brand’s collaboration with Michelin-starred chefs and brothers Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca and is dedicated to gastronomic creations from around the globe. Previous releases in the limited collection include the Mexico, New York, and London editions. Additionally, the distillery partnered with Sotheby’s to auction one of the only two bottles created of its Mexico Single Cask Limited Edition. The release fetched a winning bid of US$81,250. Said to 'capture the city's fusion of tradition and modernity', the Hong Kong edition was crafted by Euan Kennedy, lead whisky maker of The Macallan, and the Roca brothers. The launch is accompanied by a new documentary, Reimagining Spaces, which pays tribute to the city and follows the team's creative process. Joan Roca commented on the team's journey: "Distil Your World brought us to Hong Kong, and we have distilled the city with extraordinary results. The creative process is where we have fun. That's where the chaos is, where we are open to anything, where anything is possible, and no matter how crazy it may seem, it may be useful. "Our culinary proposal is inspired by the deep-rooted traditions and diverse cultures of Hong Kong, while also representing the city's modernity." The single malt is matured in select Sherry-seasoned European oak hogsheads married with American oak casks. Distil Your World Hong Kong showcases aromas of dried spices, ginger, cinnamon, honey, and antique oak, with tropical notes of pomelo and mango. The palate offers additional notes of grapefruit and umami. Kennedy said: “This is a deeply personal whisky, inspired by my time with Joan Roca exploring Hong Kong. It is big and bold. I wanted to develop the idea of structure in this whisky, reflective of the building environment rising from the sea to the green peaks behind, to create contrast within this whisky, just as Hong Kong is a city of contrasts. A whisky with many layers, to be returned to again and again to find more stories to tell, its incredible complexity transporting you on a journey of flavour and memory." The Macallan Distil Your World in Hong Kong will be available in Asia Travel Retail and the Asia-Pacific region from April, with a suggested retail price of US$4,750 in a 700ml format. Additionally, fewer than 500 bottles will be available this month in the US via pre-sale to private clients. The pre-sale will be followed by a nationwide US launch in September 2025.
