The English brings back chapters for anniversary

To celebrate its 18th anniversary, The English Distillery has released a limited commemorative bottling, marking the return of its chapter series.

Established in 2006 in Norfolk, The English Distillery – known as St George's Distillery until 2016 – became England's first registered whisky distillery for more than 100 years. The family-owned distillery was founded by the late James Nelstrop, and is now led by his son and chairman, Andrew. As part of the distillery's 18th anniversary celebrations, The English will be hosting a series of events and releases and is resurrecting its chapter collection, starting with a limited release Chapter 18. The single malt is a blend of whiskies aged 10, 12, 15, and 18 years in a selection of Bourbon, Sherry and virgin oak casks. The collection has mostly been made with unpeated barley, with some of the whisky crafted from lightly peated, resulting in notes of stewed orchard fruits, rhubarb, custard boiled sweets, oak, burnt toffee, spicy black pepper, brown sugar, and cinnamon on the palate. Andrew said: “When releasing a whisky, I have always concentrated on what it tastes like more than how old it is, what cask type or the minutiae of the grain used. Over the years, this has resulted in a series of single cask and single malt whiskies that have been widely recognised as great whiskies to drink. "I am aware that as the first registered whisky distillery in England, some of our whiskies are bought for collection rather than drinking (and for that I am humbled), but I sincerely hope those buying this release are going to open it and share it with friends. He added: "Join us in celebrating over 18 years of distilling on what would have been the birthday of our founder, James Nelstrop, and raise a glass to many more to come." The English Chapter 18 is offered at 46% ABV and is limited to 7,500 individually numbered bottles globally. The limited edition has a suggested retail price of £75 (US$102). In April this year, the distillery partnered with Walking with the Wounded charity to launch a single malt to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
