Tamnavulin Distillery marks 60th anniversary
Whyte & Mackay’s Tamnavulin Distillery has released a 25-year-old single malt to celebrate its milestone anniversary.
Tamnavulin Distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland was established in 1966 and marks its 60th anniversary this year. The Tamnavulin 25 Year Old Moscatel Cask 60th Anniversary edition was distilled in 2000, during a rare six-week distillation window. The distillery was mothballed in May 1995 and officially reopened in 2007 after a 12-year hiatus, excluding the one-and-a-half months in 2000 when it refired its stills. The whisky spent its first 20 years maturing in American oak barrels and was aged for an additional five years in a single Moscatel cask. Bottled at cask strength of 51.8% ABV, the single malt showcases aromas of oranges, cloves, poached pear, creamy custard, and a hint of balsamic vinegar. On the palate, it presents notes of dark chocolate-covered raisins, bright citrus, heather honey, and sweet liquorice, followed by flavours of mandarin, roasted hazelnut, and a chocolate-caramel ganache on the finish. The release is limited to 290 bottles, priced at £260 (US$354) and available at specialist whisky bars, pubs, and shops throughout the UK.
