Tamdhu expands cigar malt range

Speyside distillery Tamdhu has released the fourth edition in its Cigar Malt collection.

Named Tamdhu Cigar Malt IV, the expression is part of the Ian Macleod Distillers-owned brand's annual batch series. Bottled non-chill filtered at 53.8% ABV, it has been aged exclusively in oloroso Sherry casks, staying true to Tamdhu's signature style. As a unique feature in the distillery's range, the Cigar Malt is also partially matured in a small selection of first-fill European oak Sherry casks. The expression offers aromas of sticky ginger pudding and warm Sherried oak on the nose, followed by crème brûlée and plum crumble notes on the palate. As the name suggests, the single malt was designed to accompany a luxury cigar. Sandy McIntyre, distillery manager of Tamdhu, said: “The expressions within the Cigar Malt range are always one of my favourite releases of the year due to its richness and depth of flavour, making for the perfect pairing with a high-quality cigar. For the same reason, the series is always revered by our Tamdhu drinkers, and we’re confident this release will be no exception.” Cigar Malt IV is now available from specialist whisky retailers and the distillery's website. The expression has a suggested retail price of £235 (US$305). Tamdhu Distillery on the banks of the River Spey was established more than 125 years ago in 1897. In September this year, the distillery revealed a 43-year-old single malt, the first expression in the Dedicated Collection showcasing the oldest whiskies from Tamdhu.
