SunnyD Vodka Seltzer set to launch
The latest entry into the hard seltzer category comes from a 1990s orange juice phenomenon: the SunnyD Vodka Seltzer.
SunnyD (Sunny Delight) was a hit during the 1990s, after being founded in in the US in 1963. The vodka-based hard seltzer will launch in the US tomorrow (11 March) in select Walmart stores, priced at RRP US$9.99 for a pack of four 12oz (350ml) cans. Each can sits at 4.5% ABV and contains no sugar, and 95 calories. Single cans will also be available to buy. “SunnyD is a powerful brand, the most boldly unique orange drink on the planet,” said Ilene Bergenfeld, chief marketing officer, Harvest Hill Beverage Company. “Consumers are passionate about this iconic brand, rooted in nostalgia, but with a taste that resonates today. “Many have told us that they enjoy SunnyD as a mixer and asked for this product. So, we looked at the hard seltzer category, and thought, good, but we can do better. And SunnyD Vodka Seltzer was born.” The brand surveyed consumers about the product and noted 57% said the new release tastes ‘better than the hard seltzers they usually drink’. Meanwhile 85% said it tasted “unique”, while 72% agreed it was different from other products on the market. Bergenfeld added: “SunnyD Vodka Seltzer is meant to be enjoyed with friends, when it’s time to connect and chill out. “We have developed something we know adult SunnyD fans and hard seltzer enthusiasts alike will be proud to enjoy. “We look forward to hearing what they think and, based on what we've heard so far, we think SunnyD Vodka Seltzer may be the best news ever."
