Stauning bottles single cask rye
Danish whisky producer Stauning has revealed a limited edition rye whisky aged in a single Madeira cask.
Exclusively bottled for department store Selfridges, the single cask whisky was first matured in virgin American oak before being finished in a first-fill Madeira cask. It is described as a testament to Stauning’s ‘dedication to innovation’. Lasse Vesterby, co-founder of Stauning Whisky, said: “We are delighted to collaborate with Selfridges, a partner that shares our values of tradition and innovation. This Madeira cask release beautifully encapsulates the best of both worlds — the tradition of whisky-making and a modern twist brought by the vibrant cask finish.” Bottled at a cask strength of 60.2% ABV to preserve its rich character, the whisky is said to capture the essence of Stauning’s malted rye, with enhanced vibrant fruit and spice notes added by the time spent in the Madeira cask. On the nose, a bouquet of fig, honey, vanilla, and apricot can be detected, while the palate is filled with cherry, peach, orange zest, and toasted nuts. Its ‘long and balanced’ finish brings together sweet and savoury notes. The packaging, presented with touches of the Selfridges’ signature yellow, has been designed to reflect the collaboration and ‘catch the eye of both whisky connoisseurs and gift seekers alike’. The release is limited to 248 bottles, each of which has been individually sequentially numbered. It will be available online at Selfridges.com and Selfridges’ London, Birmingham and Manchester stores from 20 November for RRP £110 (US$140). Earlier this year, Stauning expanded its core range with Høst, which aimed to introduce drinkers to the brand’s portfolio.
