Starward debuts Octave Barrels in UK
Australian whisky brand Starward is launching its single malt whisky Octave Barrels in the UK.
The range will be available from UK-based whisky retailers Master of Malt and The Whisky Exchange. Earlier this month, the brand received a Gold medal in The Spirits Business’ World Whisky Masters 2022. The 48% ABV single malt is a celebration of Starward’s red wine barrel maturation and partnership with Australia-based, family-owned winery Yalumba. Founder of Starward David Vitale said: “Our friendship with Yalumba stretches back to Starward’s first batch of whisky, which was almost exclusively matured in their red wine barrels, which were generously gifted to us back in 2013. “We continue to have a brilliant relationship and using Yalumba’s The Octavius barrels we’ve been able to create a single malt that has all the bold flavours you’d expect from the combination of American oak barrels and Barossa Shiraz maturation. We can’t wait to see what UK drinkers make of the brilliantly full-bodied single malt.” The whisky is available for RRP £85 (US$102.23), and presents a ‘full-bodied’ aroma of red fruit, raisins, peach, caramel and toasty oak, while the palate contains flavours of dark forest fruits with a toasted marshmallow finish. The brand's Left-Field Whisky, a single malt finished in red wine barrels, featured in SB's Booze Banter piece for top global whiskies recently.
